The small production company a friend works for was looking for a new home theater system they
could use for smaller venues when they put on their play. The lights and sound department did their research
and found that the OnkyoTX-SR508 fit the bill perfectly for the purpose they were going to use it for. Here is
what they had to say after they bought the home theater system.

"Thanks to the AV receiver's excellent capabilities, the audience is able to enjoy surround sound
with a real sense of movement in all areas of the theater, which is comparable to a midsized home theater. With
Blu-ray Discs, the system supports DTS and Dolby Digital. It is even great when we use analog or digital TV. The
Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS Neo 6, or Onkyo's original DSP listening modes all were fantastic as we had to use this
system in a variety of settings" says Keyoto, the sound and lights manager of the production company. He goes
on to say, "Front speakers output the overall sound. Their role in a home theater is to provide a solid anchor for
the sound image. The speakers should be located facing the listeners in relation to ear level. Angle them inward in
order to create a triangle, with the audience at the apex.
The center speaker should enhance the front speakers, making the sound movement distinct and
provide for a full sound image. We use this mainly for dialog. The surround speakers allowed for precise sound
placement and added realistic ambience by positioning them at the sides of the audience, or slightly behind, around
3 feet (100 cm) above ear level. We set them to be equidistant from the audience. We really like the surround back
speakers because these speakers are necessary to enjoy Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES Matrix, DTS-ES Discrete, etc. They
augment the realism of surround sound and improve sound localization in the rear audience. Placing them behind the
audience just two to three feet above ear level really gave a good result.
The Front high speakers were essential to enjoy Dolby Pro Logic IIz Height, etc. They improve
significantly the spatial experience. By locating them at least 3.3 feet (100 cm) above the front speakers (and as
high as possible) the sound was greatly improved. Although it is adequate to place them at an angle slightly wider
than the front speakers and still get quality sound placement, ideally they should be placed directly above the
front speakers.
The subwoofer handles the bass sounds of the LFE channel. The volume and quality of the bass output
from your subwoofer will depend on its placement and the shape of your listening room. We found the whole system to
be exactly what we needed to put on a quality product in a small theater, much like a home theater. This system
will be perfect for the home theater genre."
There you have it! Even the professionals are recommending this system for a home theater. So when
it is time to say "lights, camera, action" for your next family entertainment night, the Onkyo TX-SR508 can deliver
the quality you are looking for at a price you can afford.
